ASSEMBLIES of GOD: Dr. George Wood rebukes Todd Bentley?

Today, I had a commenter write a note supporting Dr. Wood's original statement to this blog concerning the Lakeland revival and Todd Bentley. Here's what "Anonymous" said with my comments in parentheses...

"Dr. Wood's response was exactly what someone who hasn't paid the situation or teachings sufficient attention should have responded. (I don't disagree... except that this international "revival" is in an Assembly of God church! To think someone wouldn't have brought it to his attention is beyond belief! And I would question what Dr. Wood's position is FOR if he wouldn't take time to check out Todd Bentley and his teachings the instant he DID hear about this globally televised revival.)

Until he studied up on Bentley and his false teachings he had to reserve his judgments. (I agree)

His answer couldn't have been more mature, wise or Biblical. (That's Biblically debatable -- I blieve he is handling the situation incorrectly in light of I Timothy 5 -- but that's not my argument, anyway! Dr. Wood's JOB is to be a LEADER, PASTOR/TEACHER, SHEPHERD, and EXAMPLE for his denomination. Concerning Lakeland, he has failed in that job, and he continues to fail to CLEARLY LEAD his flock to this date.)

With that said, he recently contacted Bentley with a letter of rebuke and asked various questions which to my knowledge he has not received a response to yet. (Now THIS is NEWS! Mr. Anonymous must be close to some notable Assemblies of God leadership to have this information! I have seen NOTHING about this "letter of rebuke" in my research. If it exists, I commend Dr. Wood. HOWEVER, if he has enough of a concern to rebuke Todd Bentley, he must see some severe problems with Mr. Bentley. And if Dr. Wood indeed sent a letter of rebuke to Mr. Bentley, it is concrete proof that Dr. Wood is UTTERLY FAILING to faithfully lead tens of thousands of AG members who have embraced the "Florida Outpouring" AWAY from Todd Bentley's deeds or teachings that prompted his rebuke. AND if Todd Bentley has DELAYED in responding to a rebuke from an international denominational leader, then HE shows disregard and disrespect for the rebuke and the Assemblies of God which gave him his platform for this so-called revival!)

I pray that Dr. Wood comes out and denounces it publicly now that he knows this movement is distracting from the cross and blood of Jesus Christ and leading an undiscerning group further from Christ and closer to hell. (I say "AMEN!")

TO ALL READERS: If you have/find any information concerning this alleged "letter of rebuke" from George O. Wood to Todd Bentley, PLEASE forward the information to: {news (@) thewaycf (dot) com}

Living in The Way will continue to keep you informed of details as they are received.

Hi Jon:
Regarding Dr. Wood's official statement on "revival"
I wrote on my blog June 8, 2008

General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God has come forth with a general statement concerning 'revival', but conspicuously omits Todd Bentley and Lakeland 'Revival'. He avoids mentioning and denouncing what is going on in Lakeland with Todd Bentley and rebuking or confronting those leaders involved in this counterfeit revival, and thousands are still being lead in the wrong direction, and seeking unbiblical, extrabiblicall and New Age occult counsel through partaking in this 'revival'. The Apostle Paul did not hesitate to openly confront Peter and rebuke him for Peter's hypocrisy as shown in Acts 15:7-11 and in Galatians 2:11, 14-19, and Mr Wood needs to do likewise. Thus far, Mr. Wood has only compromised the Gospel of Christ by doing too little to late and not taking a stand to openly confront the guilty Assembly of God leaders involved in this circus' and the show goes on, making a mockery out of the Gospel of Christ before the entire world. Mr. Wood's statement can be read at the above link.

The Apostle Paul wrote and taught in his writings to Timothy:

Preach the word; be instant in season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. II Timothy 4:2-4

The time is now, Mr Wood!

and this is a comment I received from a Pastor, believe it or not:

Pastor John Oscar said...

Rev. Wood did exactly what he should have done- point people to the standard of faith and conduct, God's Holy Word. Instead of attacking the specific events at Lakeland or any other event called a "move of god (small g intentional), he directs people to be Bereans and examine the scriptures and see if these things are so.
I'm also a firefighter, and the best way to combat a fire is prevention. Once a fire has started, we are already in loosing battle to save lives and property. The best thing to do is to show people how to prevent the conditions that would promote ignition of dangerous fire.
That is precisely what Rev. Wood did here, and he should be commended for it.

Pastor John Oscar
This Pastor Oscar thinks Dr. Wood should be commended?! God help us all! I think Dr. Wood needs to be a leader now and openly and publically rebuke this demonic gathering in Lakeland. If not, what is he there for?

-Bentley tells how a man comes back to life after a funeral praising Reverend Todd Bentley.
-How people at Bentley's 'revival' are worked up into a state of frenzy and hypnosis by 2 hours of repetitive trance music.
-How a man inched his way out of a wheelchair, under the orders of Bentley, and fell on the floor, and then people prayed in 'tongues' over him for half an hour before lifting him back in.

Dr. Wood recently visited the A/G New York District Office where he shared that he sent a letter to Todd Bentley to which he has not yet received a reply although he believes that Todd had replied in a roundabout way on one of the broadcasts.

I don't remember all that he said, but do remember that he mentioned that angels are good for two things: jail breaks and confirmations. He also mentioned that when Todd spoke of William Branham (and the angel on him) he immediately knew something was wrong as Branham was a well-known heretic.

As this was not one of the more important or interesting topics during the discussion I took no notes and am not remembering exactly what else was said, but he did mention the letter and he brought up some issues he had with this so-called revival.
